SUMMARY:Biochar - addressing climate change in the Blue Mountains
DESCRIPTION:We have a lot of biomass waste in the Blue Mountains and much of it is naturally decomposing to carbon dioxide and methane. This is contributing to the climate crisis. \nThe best way to avoid this impact is to convert the biomass to black biochar by heating it in the absence of oxygen. This is called pyrolysis or torrefaction (depending on the temperature) and is the most environmentally responsible way to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It is also scalable. If the biochar is buried its carbon is sequestered for centuries\, attracting the highest value carbon credits and is a valuable resource with over 50 applications. \nCome and listen to the latest technological developments in biochar production and applications. \nJoin Prof Roy Tasker and Peter Green in a presentation followed by a Q&A. \nDate: 6th June \nTime: 7:00pm – 8:30pm \nLocation: Grandview Hotel Wentworth Falls
